If the world will end in 2012, this may be the last Valentine's Day on earth. If it is, different people have different ideas for how to make it count.   Spending the day with one's significant other is a popular choice.   Recently married WeeWillDoodle founder Nelz Yumul says he and his wife would probably spend the day crossing items off their bucket list, if the end of the world is indeed coming.   “Siguro magta-travel... pupunta sa isang mataas na bundok. At titingnan nang matagal ang mundong mawawala. Habang may set-up ng dinner at candlelight at love songs,” he says.   Financial systems analyst Ja Roquel-Arreza says she and her husband would probably spend the day reminiscing at a beach. “We will probably spend the whole day in Boracay or any beach (one thing we enjoy most), reminiscing about all the times we've spent together and end the day beside each other,” she says.   “If it were the world's last Valentine's Day, I would spend it with my husband in the church where we got married, where we'd reminisce about how we grew together and remember the happiest of our days,” says news editor Thea Alberto-Masakayan.

Others would choose to spend the day with more than just their special someones, and share the day of hearts with their friends and family.   “Siguro kung sa isang gig na nandun lahat ng family ko and baby ko and wife ko tapos kami yung isa sa tutugtog, nandun din lahat ng mga kaibigan ko, as in lahat. Tapos lahat ng table kulay red at may rose,” says architectural designer Marlon Dela Cruz. “Tapos yung band na kasama namin yung mga favorite ko like Kikomachine, Gorgoro, Eheads, Discoball, Incubus, Toro y Moi, Daft Punk, M83. Yung place is sa school namin nung high school ako or sa isang bar somewhere in Makati, tapos audience namin yung mga yuppies sa Makati haha!”   Others would take the opportunity to do things they haven't been able to do. “I'd go to the person that slipped and say things that I wasn’t able to say before... nang hindi iniintindi ang magiging resulta,” says architect Brian Dela Cruz.   Freelance writer Trisha Velasco says she will finally admit what she’s kept from her boyfriend all these years – “I would really, really love to receive flowers on Valentine’s Day! It’s cliché, but I’ve never gotten any and it would be fun to have a bouquet, even once.”   On the other hand, graphic artist Troy Evangelista says he really doesn't celebrate Valentine's Day, and it wouldn't matter if this were the last chance to do so. But others said they would seize the day.   “Go to Amanpulo, chill, enjoy the beach and maybe take my chances with any hot stranger/ random celebrity who happens to walk by,” says copywriter Lyn Avena.   “Well, I'm torn between losing my virginity or pampering myself with a massage, making a homemade dinner with chocolate fondue for one,” says 25 year-old florist Miriam Cabrera.    She adds that another option is to treat her parents to a romantic dinner. “And while my parents are off having a lovely dinner (my mom probably with a plate of really good tapsilog and my dad a good plate of wagyu steak, I will stay at home, eat soft batch cookies and read a really romantically optimistic book (Love, Rosie by Cecilia Ahern),” she adds.   Author Alan Navarra also says he’d be having breakfast with his mother.    For IT consultant Jaja Mercado, the day would be perfectly spent doing the things she loves, with or without anyone. “I don't really have anyone special, but I'm happy to just curl up in bed with an excellent book, or maybe watching my favorite movie with really cheesy popcorn.”   Vegetarian Jennifer Lao says that it would be an excuse to indulge. “I would give up all my healthy diet and eat a huge platter of red steak and mashed potatoes,” she says.   End of the world or not, single or taken, you can always celebrate Valentine's Day with good food that won't use up your savings. An adventurous appetite and a good sense of fun are all you need to try any of these cheap eats.   And if you're determined to find a last-minute date, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago has some winning pick up lines. - YA, GMA News
