No limbs, no problem: Nick Vujicic inspires Manila

Nick Vujicic (pronounced Voo-yee-cheech) was born without arms, without legs, and without feet due to a rare congenital condition called tetra-amelia syndrome, but this did not stop him from living his life and conquering challenges probably more than anyone else. With this rare condition, Nick admits that life for him is not easy, but that he eventually learned to overcome his disabilities and fears, according to a report on GMA News TV's News To Go. "I believe the biggest disability is fear—fear of what people think of you, fear of the future, the fear of the past in finding your future. And I don't want fear to define anything in my life," Nick said in his motivational talk at CCF Center in Pasig on Saturday. Nick, who arrived in Manila last Friday as part of his Asia tour, is now a certified accountant and the CEO of Life Without Limbs—a non-government agency that motivates and inspires people from all over the world— proving that he did not let his disabilities stop him from living his life and achieving his dreams.

Overcoming hard times Nick admitted he once questioned God for his disabilities. There was no medical reason why I was born without arms and legs. My question to God is, ‘Why me?’” he said. He even tried to kill himself once, but eventually learned to move forward and make the most of what he had. "Not knowing exactly what lies ahead was scary, so I moved forward in what I could know and not be afraid of what I didn't know," he told the crowd. "I was thankful for what I did have instead of being angry for what I didn't have." Choose to stay For someone who once tried to drown himself, it is an irony that he eventually learned to swim and do other water sports. "I have a little foot here. I learned to write with my foot and type with my foot. I swim, I golf, I fish, I surf, I scuba dive, and I've done skydiving with my wife as well," Nick said. Nick advised that even if things get hopeless, one should still choose to live and give problems or challenges a chance to be conquered or solved. "So even if you can't see hope today, it doesn't mean it's not there. You must decide to stay. You must decide to give your broken pieces a chance," he said. — Amanda Fernandez/BM, GMA News
