PHL to compete in Canadian pyromusical show

The Philippines will take part in the Sound of Light pyromusical show in Canada this August, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.

Now on its 18th year, the Casino du Lac-Leamy Sound of Light was launched last May 30 in Gatineau with Mayor Marc Bureau as guest of honor, the DFA said.

“Participating teams from the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Denmark and United Arab Emirates are poised to outdo each other in an exciting burst of lights and colors over Leamy Lake from August 10 to 24,” the DFA said.

On August 17, the Philippine team will put on a 25-minute show entitled, “Revolution.”

The presentation will evoke the spirit of the 1986 People Power Revolution “that brought down a dictatorship and restored democracy in the Philippines,” the DFA said.

Philippine Ambassador to Canada Leslie Gatan invited Filipinos in Canada to support the Philippine team.

“I invite members of the Filipino community in Ottawa and Gatineau to join me in cheering for the pyrotechnic wizards from the Philippines as they mount a dazzling show for our enjoyment and national pride,” he said.

The Sound of Light pyromusical show gained a reputation as the most colorful and most explosive event of the summer.

For this year, it will be presented by SAQ, with the Banque Nationale as collaborating sponsor.

Expected to represent the Philippines is Platinum Fireworks Inc., which has joined various international fireworks display contests, the DFA said.

The company is also the organizer of the annual Philippine International Pyromusical Competition at the SM Mall of Asia as well as the Asian Sky Wizardry fireworks competition at the Enchanted Kingdom in Laguna every October. —KG, GMA News
