The two new world records set by a religious group's charity walk for survivors of super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last weekend have been formalized online on the Guinness World Records' website.

As of Tuesday afternoon Manila time, entering "charity walk" would yield two results - one for Largest Charity Walk in 24 Hours (multiple venues) and another for Largest Charity Walk.

"The largest charity walk consists of 175,509 people and was achieved by Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ), at Quirino Grandstand, Manila, Philippines, on 15 February 2014. The charity walk was organised to raise money for victims of Typhoon Yolanda," read the description in the GWR revord for largest charity walk.

Meanwhile, the other record for the largest charity walk in 24 hours in multiple venues said the INC's event was held in 129 sites worldwide on Sunday.

It counted 519,221 participants in 129 sites across the world.

"The 129 sites were situated in 16 countries," it added.

INC's feat had earned praise from Malacañang and ecological group EcoWaste Coalition.

While Malacañang lauded the group for showing its solidarity with victims of Yolanda, EcoWaste cited its members for not littering during the walk. — VC, GMA News
