(Updated 4:12 p.m., April 15) The Philippines on Monday set another new world record, this time for the largest flaming image, pulling off the feat in Iloilo province.
Not even rainy weather stopped residents from lighting nearly 57,000 torches to form the image, according to a report by radio dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo.
While 100,000 torches were readied for the event, 56,680 were actually lit, the report said.
An aerial camera showed the image of the Philippine map formed by the lighted candles, the report added.
Broken by Monday's feat was the record set in Pakistan on Dec. 10, 2009, where a flaming image using 35,478 candles was achieved by 118 Sandoz employees at the Hotel Serena in Faisalabad.
Earlier, a report on Iloilo-based The Daily Guardian said the participants were to form an image of the Philippine map for five seconds.
News To Go featured the event in a report on Tuesday.
The participants also held a memorial activity for the victims of super Typhoon Yolanda, and a 30-minute meditation to promote inner peace and world peace. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
