A residence fit for a president: Obama’s P300K hotel suite

Want to live like the leader of the free world? You can book the same hotel suite Barack Obama stayed in during his two-day state visit for P300,000 a night, according to a report by Pia Arcangel on GMA News' "Balitanghali" Wednesday.

The US President stayed overnight at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila's Imperial Residence, which comes with all the amenities as well as a personal chef, a butler, spa treatments, all the food he could eat and even his choice of pillow. The P300,000 price tag does not yet include tax.

According to Sofitel's website, the Imperial Residence was built and designed by Japanese firm Spin Design Studio at the cost of $1 million. With an area of 6,200 square feet, the residence consists of four Luxury Club Millesime Rooms—which offer "plush, modern interiors in vibrant, earthen hues...reminiscent of autumn in France with splashes of burnt oranges and olive greens"—and the Imperial Suite.

The Imperial Suite has a fully equipped kitchen, a formal dining room, a private library filled with books and magazines, an en suite bathroom with Hermès bath amenities, a large outdoor living area with a view of the city and Manila Bay, and direct access to and from the hotel helipad.

The Imperial Residence can also be converted to a gym, spa or office to suit the needs of the occupant.

Since this was a state visit, the Philippines footed the bill for the President and his entire 1,000-strong delegation.

According to the report, the Palace has yet to disclose the total amount spent.

But according to a text message from Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., the information will be released once full accounting is completed. — BM/VC/KG, GMA News
