Sineng Pambansa Horror plus Film Festival to spook moviegoers next month

Award-winning filmmakers are bringing new scary stories to the big screen at the Sineng Pambansa Horror plus Film Festival from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4.

Presented by the Film Development Council of the Philippines in partnership with SM Cinema, the festival will feature four films: Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes' “T’yanak” remake; Gil Portes' “Hukluban”; Edgardo Vinarao's “Bacao”; and Romy Suzara's “Sigaw sa Hatinggabi”.

“T’yanak” - Gallaga and Reyes remake their own 1988 chiller about a tiyanak—a monster of Filipino folklore that looks like a baby—that terrorizes the inhabitants of a small village. Judy Ann Santos, Solenn Heussaff, Tom Rodriguez, and Sid Lucero star.

“Hukluban” - Portes' film follows the beautiful Mira as she romances three men in three different eras while she searches for the true love that will break the curse that binds her. Krista Miller and Kiko Matos star.

“Bacao” - Vinarao was one of the winners at the Sineng Pambansa Genre Scriptwriting competition last year for this script, and now makes his story come to life onscreen. Mayet is a young woman whose relationship with her husband is somehow connected to the fertility of the soil in their village. Her inability to get pregnant stretches her marriage—and her sanity—to the limit.

“Sigaw sa Hatinggabi” - Suzara's "Big Brother"-esque thriller follows a documentary TV production crew as it records a group of paranormal investigators looking into a murder supposedly committed by a ghost. Regine Angeles, Richard Quan, Afi Africa, Vangie Labalan, Chanel Latorre, David Karell, Alvin Anson, and Paloma star. — BM, GMA News
