Stamp collectors will now have a reminder of the  landing in Leyte of US and Filipino troops in 1944 that paved the way for the liberation of the Philippines from Japanese occupation during World War II.

The Philippine Postal Corp. said that in honor of the event's 70th anniversary, it is issuing 80,000 pieces of the commemorative stamps, designed by artist Derrick Macutay, in denominations of P10.

Depicted in the stamps are US General Douglas MacArthur and his troops wading ashore in Red Beach, Palo, beneath which is his famous quote, “People of the Philippines, I have returned.”

MacArthur was accompanied by President Sergio Osmeña, who had become president of the Commonwealth only a few months earlier, and Gen. Carlos P. Romulo.
