Former UST rector Fr. Frederik Fermin dies, 90

The University of Santo Tomas community is mourning the passing of its former rector Fr. Frederik Fermin, who died Monday at age 90.

 

A post on UST's Facebook page early Tuesday said Fermin served as Rector Magnificus of the UST from 1978 to 1981.

 

He also served as dean of the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters, and Rector of the UST Central Seminary.

 

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines news site said Fermin was a Dutch-born naturalized Filipino citizen.

 

It added Fermin’s remains will lie in state at the UST Chapel starting Tuesday.

 

Also, the CBCP said a funeral Mass was set on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. at the UST Chapel.

 

He is to be buried at the Santuario de Santo Domingo, Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
