After Filipina bet MJ Lastimosa failed to make it to the top 5 of the Miss Universe pageant, netizens blasted the Colombian-born head of the Binibining Pilipinas organization for turning to a foreign designer for Lastimosa's gowns.

The cyber-fury stemmed from Stella Marquez-Araneta's statements defending this year's national costume, which was made by Colombian fashion designer Alfredo Barraza.

The outfit had already drawn online criticism for its design, with many likening the dress to a cake.

The netizens were quick to defend Filipino designers, even asking Araneta to step down from her Binibining Pilipinas post she held since 1964.
