Like Grace Kelly: The gown that inspired Heart Evangelista’s wedding dress

When Heart Evangelista wed Senator Chiz Escudero on Balesin Island in Quezon on Sunday, February 15, she was a vision in white in a gown inspired by Grace Kelly's famous wedding dress.

And if Kelly looked like a fairytale princess straight out of the movies on her big day, there's a reason for that—other than the fact that she was an Oscar-winning film star, of course.

According to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Kelly's wedding gown was designed by Academy Award-winning American costume designer Helen Rose, who worked for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Kelly's studio.

MGM's wardrobe department made the high-necked and long-sleeved dress, which was made of silk rose point lace, silk faille, taffeta and silk tulle, and embedded with seed pearls.

Heart's wedding dress was designed by Dubai-based fashion designer Ezra Santos.

Despite the design inspiration, there are key differences between the two gowns. Unlike Kelly's gown, Heart's dress has embroidery throughout, including on the skirt; at the waist it had a thinner sash than Kelly's; and it was more figure-hugging than Kelly's bell-shaped gown.

Heart's dress was also high-necked and long-sleeved, but diaphanous at the elbows and the bust to show off a sweetheart neckline.

Heart also wore a smaller headpiece than Princess Grace's star-pointed Juliet cap. However, the homage is evident, and resulted in beautiful bridal wear that suited Heart perfectly.
