TRIVIA: Mother and daughter who joined the Binibining Pilipinas pageant

Did you know that one candidate of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant tried her luck twice but failed to take the crown? Some years later, her daughter joined, won, and moved on to become an actress.

When Binibining Pilipinas premiered in 1964, Elvira Gonzales had been one of the hopefuls. But the crown went to Ma. Myrna Elizabeth Sese Panlilio, the first Binibining Pilipinas winner.

The following year, Gonzales once again joined the pageant but Louise Vail Aurelio won.

In 1994, 29 years later, Charlene Gonzales followed the footsteps of her mother. She successfully claimed the title of Binibining Pilipinas Universe.

Charlene represented the country in the Miss Universe pageant, which was held in the Philippines, making it to the Top 6 and winning the Best National Costume award.

Her answer made an impression during the Question and Answer portion when the host asked her about the number of islands in the Philippines, and she answered back: "High tide or low tide?"
