Special Ad Feature: Champion pays tribute to a history professor who is also an inspiring inventor
Champion has established its equity of being “tapat” or faithful to its consumers by using only the best ingredients in its products, giving them the most value for their money. This is why the brand selected thirteen unique individuals or groups of people who have exemplified what being “tapat” means in their various fields, and how this has brought about a positive impact on their lives and the people around them.
In the second Tapat Dapat Update, Champion tells the story of Professor Benjamin Mangubat of UP Manila. A history professor of more than 30 years, Professor Mangubat wanted to inspire his students to be more inventive. Often citing Jose Rizal in his lectures, he wanted his students to be like their national hero who often used his creativity to come up with his own inventions.
Professor Mangubat’s own invention—the “Bangkarwayan” is a solar and wind-powered vehicle that can run on land and float on water. It also features a unique chassis made of bamboo (hence the monicker bangka + car+ kawayan) and other indigenous materials.
Despite facing many challenges in the creation of his Bangkarwayan, Professor Mangubat stayed faithful to this ambitious endeavor and has come out successful in producing the vehicle that he had envisioned. He is a great example of how great inventions can come from simple ideas but given lots of effort and commitment.
