AsPin (Asong Pinoy) dogs in Cebu City needed no fancy pedigrees Sunday as they got the star treatment—including free health care and grooming from city veterinary officials.

The dogs got free vaccines, de-worming and grooming at the Asong Pinoy Day in Cebu City, GMA Cebu's Lou-Anne Mae Rondina reported Monday.

Attending the event were dog lovers like Rona and Edgar Lapiña, who said that they may not have been blessed with a child after nine years of marriage, but their five adopted dogs are there to help fill the void.

"Naging mas malapit kami ng aking mister. Everytime pag dating namin sa bahay walang iba kaming kasiyahan ang aso lang. Then kapag umaalis kami nakadagdag sa closeness at bonding naming pamilya," said Rona.

She added that dogs in many ways are like people.

"Kaya ang aming advocacy maliban sa ituring na anak ang mga hayop, kailangan natin silang mahalin at alagaan," she said. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
