WATCH: Cebu traffic enforcer stands tall despite handicap
A traffic enforcer in Metro Cebu proves that you don't need legs to stand tall at your job.
Magdaleno Borces, 57, was born without legs below the knees, while his hands were not fully developed—yet he gets the job done, GMA Cebu's Alan Domingo reported.
Borces helps direct traffic in his barangay and has been hired by a local private school to direct traffic there as well. Perching on some hollow blocks and blowing his trusty whistle, he makes sure motorists see him as he waves them past.
It's a job Borces wants to have. "Kahit pinagsabihan na namin siya na huwag nang magtrapik, yan naman ang gusto niya," his brother Urbano said.
This determination not to let his lack of limbs stop him has been part of Borces' character since his youth. When he was in school, he said, he used to be teased and called "pungkol," meaning "no extremities."
"Maliit pa ako, nag-aaral pa ako, palagi na akong tinutukso ng aking mga classmate. Pero wala sa akin, OK lang naman," he said.
Borces, who gets around on a customized tricycle, is still a bachelor and quite available.
"Baka wala namang babaeng papayag. Kung meron pang babaeng papayag, bakit hindi?" he said, smiling. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
