Some of the country's top fashion designers are behind the outfits for attendees of Monday's State of the Nation Address.
But fashion isn't the only consideration for many of the luminaries who will be attending the event.
Renowned designer Rajo Laurel, who has dressed a number of personalities for the SONA, said that his clients have been making practical requests for their growns.
In a report on "24 Oras" on Friday, Laurel revealed that one client ordered a two-piece attire — a cropped top and a long skirt — which would allow the client to wear them again.
Some other clients like Sen. Grace Poe and Cavite 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado have asked him to tweak old gowns for the SONA.
"Yes, they make pagawa but yes they also think of the practicality," Laurel said.
Shalani Soledad-Romulo, an ex-girlfriend of President Benigno Aquino III and the wife of Pasig Rep. Roman Romulo, also considered practicality when working with fashion designer Anthony Ramirez for her SONA gown.
Ramirez decided to use neoprene, a fabric usually used in sportswear, to make her gown versatile and easier to repurpose after.
"Mostly of the Filipiniana gowns, after, hindi mo na siya mgagamit because of the sleeves so that's why ginawa namin, gown siya tapos twinist namin into a Filipiniana," he said.
Meanwhile, Sen. Nancy Binay is still planning to wear a Randy Ortiz creation even after her outfit drew flak last year. Binay even about auctioning off the gown that launched a thousand memes as a fundraiser.
With the address being the last for Aquino, Laurel has an inkling about the color of the day for the event.
"Dahil siguro huling SONA na to ni PNoy, baka marami ka sigurong makikitang dilaw," said Laurel in reference to the Aquino family's trademark color. —Trisha Macas/JST, GMA News
