I-Witness docu by Kara David receives award from Save The Children
By TRISHA MACAS, GMA News
An episode of GMA News TV's documentary program "I-Witness" received an award on Wednesday from a non-profit organization focusing on the welfare of the children.
"Mga Anak ng Pugad Lawin" was given a special citation for Outstanding News Documentary at the first Save the Children Media Awards, Uncovering Child Hunger and Malnutrition held in Quezon City.
GMA News reporter and anchor and the episode's host Kara David received the award together with her team.

During her acceptance speech, David shared her experience with the malnourished children in Pugad Lawin, Camarines Sur.
She said that they first visited the community in 2005. That episode then won an award in Singapore--the best documentary in Asia, she said. However, the children she interviewed died.

Since then, David told her team that they will not stop covering malnutrition stories until "matapos ang problema".
Almost ten years later, the same problem persists in the same community, which they showed in "Mga Anak ng Pugad Lawin" in 2014.
Despite all the depressing stories, David is not losing hope.
"Hindi ako nawawalan ng pag-asa because kahit dumadami iyong mga bata na namamatay dahil sa malnutrition... dumarami rin ang mga NGO, dumarami rin ang mga journalist, dumarami ang mga tao sa gobyerno, dumarami rin ang mga nutritionist and ordinary people who care for these children," she said.
David ended her speech with a quote from Nelson Mandela, "There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children."
"Let's look at our children. If they are okay, then our country's okay. If our children can't eat three times a day, then hindi natin masasabi na successful ang bayan natin," she added.
During his opening remarks, Save the Children Philippines country director Ned Olney also shared the same thought.
"If we want to progress as a country, we must address the issue of poverty and stunting. We must address malnutrition," he said.
