Sneak peeks of Pia Wurtzbach’s interview with Steve Harvey
However you feel about Steve Harvey and Miss Universe, the gaffe he committed during the Coronation Night is simply inescapable. It's been spoofed and it's become a meme; you would have to exert a lot of effort to claim ignorance of what happened on December 20.
Nearly a month after announcing the wrong winner, Harvey is sitting down with both Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach and first runner-up Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez in a two-part special for the Steve Harvey Show titled "The Truth."
In a series of promos released on the show's official YouTube channel, Harvey revealed that his family received death threats for his flub and that he found strength in his wife.
Wurtzbach, for her part, immediately forgave Harvey and even defended the host from the people criticizing him for allegedly missing rehearsals. The beauty queen told audience that Harvey did his part and denied that rumors that he was too drunk to perform his duties.
She also encouraged Harvey to move on. "Don't beat yourself up for this anymore! Let's move forward, let's just be happy!" she said.
And because the title is "The Truth," Wurtzbach was asked to share what was going through her head when it was announced that she was first runner-up...and when she realized that she was, in fact, Miss Universe 2015.
Wurtzbach once again graciously said that she was proud of her performance and happy that her fellow Filipinos kept waving the Philippine flag, because first runner-up is still first runner-up.
She didn't hide the fact that she was excited about winning, but stated that she was very concerned for Gutierrez as well.
"I was being sensitive to her feelings," Wurtzbach said. "I was very happy that I won, I was excited...but I was also thinking to about her. I was thinking of how tough this must be for her."
Harvey also said he was looking forward to speaking with Gutierrez to extend his apologies personally.
The first part of the interview, with Wurtzbach, will air on January 18 in the US and the second part, with Gutierrez, will air the next day. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
