Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach on Friday (February 26) became an official #HIV Prevention Ambassador for Aid for AIDS. She is the 6th Miss Universe to receive the title.

Wurtzbach received the honor and responsibility after attending a workshop in the foundation's headquarters in New York. Prior to being named an ambassador, Wurtzbach attended a workshop focusing on global statistics, HIV and its relation with the LGBT community and Gender and Sexuality.

During her visit, Wurtzbach was also given a tour of the group's medicine storage, familiarizing her with the advancements in managing HIV and AIDS.

Wurtzbach thanked Aid for AIDS for giving her more information about HIV/AIDS and once again called for an end to the stigma surrounding the infection/disease.

The beauty queen has been a prominent advocate for the cause since her win in December 2015. During her homecoming visit to the Philippines, she announced that she will be taking a public test for HIV in New York to encourage more people to do the same. — AT, GMA News
