What's good, beauty queens?

Kylie Verzosa (Bb. Pilipinas International), Jennifer Hammond (Bb. Pilpinas Intercontinental), and Nicole Cordoves (Bb. Pilipinas Grand International), all preparing to fly out to compete in their respective international pageants, on Wednesday enjoyed a send-off with other beauty queens and the press in Quezon City.

With the Philippines gaining a fair amount of notoriety due to the current administration's campaign against illegal drugs, the three were asked what good news they'll share internationally in their capacity as representatives of the nation.

For Hammond, the attention that the country is receiving is good news enough.

"We are noticed by a lot of nations right now and publicity is always good," she said.

Cordoves said that the government has a strong mandate and, if aimed in the right direction, that firm resolve will bring the country a lot of good.

"Now Filipinos have found their voice. We are now more particular, more observant about the moves of our politicians," she said. "Transparency has greatly increased—responsibility as well, as to who you elect."

She added, "With a strong mandate like [Duterte's] and how fast things could change under this administration, once our president really gets adrift in the right direction, it will really be smooth sailing."

Verzosa chose to focus on the natural charm of the Philippines.

"One thing I would want to share [with my fellow candidates] is simply the beauty of the Philippines," she said, further stating that the tourist destinations in the country will always bring pride to the Filipinos. — BM, GMA News
