‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ trailer reveals Count Olaf

Misery and despair abound in the recently released teaser for Netflix’s adaptation of “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” which finally reveals its nefarious villain, Count Olaf.

The “A Series of Unfortunate Events” television series stars Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf, who becomes the legal guardian of the story’s trio of heroes: the Baudelaire orphans.

After the Baudelaire children lose their parents in a fire, their distant relative Count Olaf volunteers to take them under his wing. His motives are far from altruistic, however; what he really wants is the massive fortune the children’s dead parents left behind. And he’ll do anything to get his hands on that money—even murder.

“A Series of Unfortunate Events” also stars Malina Weissman as Violet Baudelaire, a gifted inventor and the eldest of the Baudelaire children. Weisman starred in 2014’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” where she assumed the role of a young April O’Neil. She was also in the first season of CBS’ “Supergirl” TV series, where she plays a young Kara Zor-El (who grows up to be Supergirl).

Newcomer Louis Hynes plays the middle Baudelaire child, Klaus. Klaus is extremely widely read for his age, and his siblings often turn to him when they need esoteric information on a variety of topics.

The youngest Baudelaire child, Sunny, is just a baby when the series starts. She has four incredibly sharp teeth, which she uses for defense, among other things.

The book series was previously adapted into a movie entitled “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” which was released in 2004. In the film, Jim Carrey starred as Count Olaf, Emily Browning as Violet Baudelaire, and Liam Aiken as Klaus Baudelaire. Jude Law served as the voice of Lemony Snicket.

“A Series of Unfortunate Events” is an extremely popular book series that began in 1999 and ended in 2006. All thirteen books were “authored” by Lemony Snicket. Lemony Snicket is both a fictitious character and the pen name of the real author, Daniel Handler.

The inaugural season of the Netflix television series will come with eight episodes. Its release date is January 13, 2017. — AT, GMA News
