During the question and answer portion of the Miss Grand International 2016 held in Las Vegas last month, Philippine bet Nicole Cordoves received jeers for choosing Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.

Nicole defended that her choice was in the context of world peace as a whole, and not choosing one candidate over another. All the same, Nicole urged people to give him a chance now that Trump won a shock victory in the US elections.

"At this point in time in our world, we can't let politics tear us apart," she said in an interview at Novotel Manila in Araneta Center Cubao on Thursday.

While she was actually rooting for Clinton, Nicole said that everyone must now stand together.

Nicole was the first runner-up at the pageant.

In the same news conference, Nicole revealed her dream of becoming a news correspondent, saying she is willing to put in the necessary work to achieve her goal.

"I'm willing to write and to train for it, to do my research. That's the dream, that's the big dream," she added.

Aside from stunning crowds in pageant runways, Nicole is known to write speeches for former Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima.

With her background and interests, she said that she is "cautiously optimistic" of the changes in the political climate in the world.

"In the past year, in the speeches I've been making, they all beg the question, 'What is the new direction of the world?'" Nicole said.

"Everyone's going for the more radical change rather than going for the more conservative choice. At this point I'm really cautiously optimistic about things," she added.

Asked if she would consider becoming a speech writer for Trump, she answered, "Yes!"

"I'm a good speech writer and I would make good speeches for him that will make people hate him less," she added. —JST, GMA News
