The Mall of Asia Arena was filled with cheers when host Steve Harvey announced who won the new Miss Universe title on Monday morning.

French beauty queen Iris Mittenaere was crowned by Pia Wurtzbach as the new queen.

Mittenaere was dazed as she took her first walk as the new Miss Universe, she shone during the coronation event donning a shimmering gold gown.

She is the second French beauty to win a Miss Universe title, after Christiane Martel who brought home the crown in 1953.

"I think they need a Miss Universe, because the French people love beauty pageants ... but they don't know Miss Universe, because we never win," Mittenaere said in her first press conference after being crowned Miss Universe. "I think they will watch Miss Universe now."

The 24-year-old beauty queen is currently pursuing her degree in dental surgery and is fond of extreme sports, travelling and cooking French dishes.  --Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/JST, GMA News
