Sushmita reveals getting a sign the night before she won Miss U

The night before she won Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen knew in her heart that 1994 was the year India will get its first winner in the prestigious international pageant.

In an interview with "Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho" this week, the beauty queen and proud mother of two talked about the celestial “sign” she got a few hours before the final competition in Manila.

While her roommate was fast asleep, Sushmita said she was too excited to get some shuteye.

“I can't sleep because I'm so excited. For some reason, I can't sleep. So, I go open the window and it was a very cloudy night. I stood there and said 'God, I know India has never won Miss Universe before, but if you will just let me go back home respectfully. If I can just give the best version of myself today—that's all I want,'” she said.

“And I got my eyes closed and suddenly, it's really bright. So, I opened my eyes to see what happened—the clouds have moved and there is a big moon outside my window with a spot on my face. I bolted from the window straight to Miss Guam, and said, 'Wake up!W ake up! You have to see this!' Miss Guam said, 'Sushmita, let me sleep. We have very little time.' And I said, 'No, you have to see this. I think I just got a sign. I'm going to win tonight.' And she was like, 'What? Go back to sleep!' She did not see it, but that's the first time I knew something was going to happen. I don't know what, but something,” she added.

“When we were on the stage and they said, 'Top 10 finalists. We begin with Miss India,' I knew, full stop, that tonight is the night.”

Sushmita was crowned at the Philippine International Convention Center in 1994 by Dayanara Torres. The pair served as judges together on Monday for the 65th Miss Universe final competition.
