Kapuso luminaries win at 8th Edukcircle awards

GMA News anchor Ivan Mayrina, TV host Drew Arellano, veteran broadcast journalist Jessica Soho and comedian Eugene Domingo were among the winners at the 8th Edukcircle Awards.

Soho, recently awarded the UP Gawad Plaridel, was honored for "Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho," while Domingo bagged the Best in Comedy award (female category) for "Celebrity Bluff."

Mayrina won Best Male News Anchor for "Unang Balita," while Arellano was recognized for "Biyahe ni Drew."

In his acceptance speech, Mayrina expressed how honored he feels to have received an award from the members of the academe.

"Salamat at sulit ang araw-araw na paggising nang napakaaga para sa unang balita, but seriously an award is an award, every award is special kapag galing sa mga nasa academe dahil ito ay sektor ng audience na hindi lamang umiidolo o passively nanood," he said.

"Ito ay mga pumupuna at mga kritiko sa ginagawa natin araw-araw so to receive an award from the academe, from the educators, from the students, makes it extra special, so maraming-maraming salamat po sa pagkilala it's always an affirmation, a pat on the back ika nga na tama at natutuwa sila sa trabaho natin bilang broadcast journalist," he continued.

Soho also thanked the Edukcircle for giving the Kapuso team awards once again and for giving TV programs continuous inspiration to do the best.

Domingo also thanked and mentioned GMA Network in her acceptance speech for putting trust in her with her TV programs "Celebrity Bluff" and "Dear Uge."

"Nagpapasalamat ako nang sobra sa Edukcircle on their eighth year binigyan nila ako ng best TV Comedienne...thank you," she said.
