Spain’s Angela Ponce gets standing ovation in Miss Universe 2018

She may have failed to make it to the semi-finals of Miss Universe 2018, but Spain’s Angela Ponce was given a standing ovation during the coronation night in Thailand on Monday morning, PHL time.

Miss Spain is the first transgender candidate of Miss Universe and during the coronation night, the beauty pageant organization paid tribute to Angela with a video recognition.

After the video was shown, Miss Spain walked on stage, removed her sash and held it up triumphantly in the air. The crowd stood in her honor.

“I don’t need to win Miss Universe. I just need to be here,” Angela said.
