Karen Gallman is ready for the Miss Intercontinental crown

Filipino-Australian beauty queen Karen Gallman is hoping to make history and bring home the first Miss Intercontinental crown for the Philippines.

"There is pressure on me to be the first Filipina [to win Miss Intercontinental] ... but I really just want to have a relaxed mindset and just be present as much as possible in the moment. I just want to enjoy, but at the same time I've prepared so hard for this competition," Karen told the press during her send-off on Thursday

She added, "Laban pa rin, kahit relaxed ang mindset. Laban pa rin nang todo."

A long journey to the crown

Karen began her Binibining Pilipinas journey in 2012, where she placed in the Top 15. She was seven years younger then and had only joined to get a feel for pageantry.

"I decided to join again when I'm more matured and experienced life a bit more," she shared.

Since her first try, she had finished her tertiary education and started working as an operations analyst in London. She has also traveled to over 30 countries, which she highlighted in her Miss Intercontinental video.

After going through the Binibining Pilipinas competition twice, Karen said that she has learned that preparation is key in pageants and it's that energy that she's bringing to the Miss Intercontinental stage.

"It's been very challenging and very busy for me, especially these holidays. I was still training even [through] Christmas and New Year's [Eve]. But it's good, because I feel very prepared. I will go into the competition prepared for anything."

Aces up her sleeves

Karen assured the members of the press that she's been practicing her walk, her Q&A, and working out a lot. Updates on her preparation has been scarce, but that's all part of the strategy.

"I don't post a lot, I don't let anyone see what I'm doing because I want it all to be a surprise," Karen said. "I want to be the best version of myself when it comes to the competition."

However, she did reveal a bit of information about her looks for the competition. Her national costume will be designed by Patrick Starrr and she will be wearing two gowns on the finals night.
