Pia Wurtzbach to miss attending Miss Universe 2019 pageant

Everyone's excited for the Miss Universe pageant next month.

Sadly, 2015 titleholder Pia Wurtzbach said she will not be able to attend the event in Atlanta.

In one of her IG posts, a fan asked Pia if she already had her tickets to the pageant, and the beauty queen explained she would be in Japan for her travel show.

As a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific, I joined a special event at the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre (TRC-ARC) devoted to the role of communities in tackling HIV stigma and discrimination against transgender people. In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Praphan Phanuphak, Director, TRC-ARC, welcomed Mr. Sathit Pitutecha, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Dr. Shona Wynd, UNAIDS Senior Policy Adviser. We deeply appreciate HRH Princess Soamsawali Krom Muen Suddhanarinatha, the UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for HIV Prevention for Asia and the Pacific, for her continuous commitment and significant contribution to the HIV response in Thailand and in the region. Hoping we could all help and support more activities like this — swipe left! ????

Pia said she was even offered a chance to be a backstage host during the pageant, but had to decline.

"My travel show was invited by the tourism board of Japan to feature a festival in Fukuoka. Our working visas were released already before MUO announced the date and venue," she wrote.

"MUO invited me backstage host with CHI and I really want to! But it would also be impolite for me to cancel my trip to Japan. Government invitation 'yun. At may mga visa na kami," she added.

On a regretful note, the 2015 Miss Universe said: "Sayang. If I had known sooner baka nagawan ko pa ng paraan."

The 2019 Miss Universe pageant will be held on December 9 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Philippines this year will be represented by Gazini Ganados, who's hoping to win a back-to-back Miss Universe crown after the reigning Pinay queen Catriona Gray. —Margaret Claire Layug/KG, GMA News
