'Hero dads' who walk to work every day get free bikes from 'Unang Hirit'

Most dads would do anything to provide for their families, including walk for hours just to get to work amid quarantine.

As an advanced Father's Day celebration, "Unang Hirit" had a little surprise for a couple of them to make their lives easier.

On Friday's show, we met Christian Kenneth Salazar who has been travelling to work on foot for up to six hours amid the limited public transportation in Metro Manila.

Tatay Johnny Guinacaran meanwhile has been enduring a four-hour walk under the hot sun after surviving a nasty stroke.

To commend the "hero dads" on their hard work and dedication, "Unang Hirit" surprised each of them with brand new bikes of their own.

Host Mariz Umali also handed them some safety gear from the show's "Ligtas-Padyak" project.

Under the "Ligtas-Padyak" project, which aims to help bikers get to their destinations safely as they transition into the "new normal," the show has given away more than 100 sets of helmets, vests and blinking lights.

Since Metro Manila was eased to general community quarantine, many Filipinos have turned to biking as an alternative mode of transportation.
