Rabiya Mateo says years of teaching helped her during Miss Universe PHL Q&A

Rabiya Mateo has revealed that it was her years of being a lecturer that helped her during the Q&A segment of the Miss Universe Philippines competition.

“That was a good training ground kasi because at least ’di ako takot to the public,” Rabiya said in an episode of “Queentuhan” with Pia Wurtzbach, Bianca Guidotti, and Carla Lizardo on Wednesday.

“Even for the fact na magkamali ako. My grammar is not perfect, my diction is not perfect but I know my content is good and I have the heart to speak to the people,” she said.

“And the reason behind that is because I’ve been training in the field of education for two years,” added the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 titleholder.

The beauty queen, who taught at a Manila review center for people taking the physical therapy board exam, also said holding the microphone had become her comfort zone.

“Every time I hold a mic I can extend my energy to my listeners,” Rabiya said. “Every time I speak para akong nagtuturo. That was my struggle.”

Meanwhile, Pia had nothing but praise for Rabiya and her unique trait.

“Kailangan natin ng candidates na ganyan, guys!” said Pia.

“Maganda ’yang quality na ’yan, Rabiya, na gusto mong kunin ’yung microphone and I’m sure na they’re at ease … na you’re not afraid of the Q&A,” added the Miss Universe 2015 titleholder. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
