Miss International 2013 Bea Santiago says she undergoes dialysis five times a week


Miss International 2013 Bea Santiago just revealed that she undergoes dialysis five times a week.

In the caption, she said she has been having a hard time with her protein intake, and now has "low phosphate, low hemoglobin and having muscle aches."

Bea said her doctors and nutritionist recommended vegan options, but after two months is now "a pescatarian on the weekends and vegetarian on weekdays."

"I dont consume cow’s milk and eggs but I do love oats milk and goat’s cheese," she said.

"I love being plant based and right now Im gonna slowly transition AGAIN! Only problem is IM A LAZY COOK and a dialysis patient," she added.

Bea said she is "still recommending to all to live by a plant- based diet just make sure u eat proper nutrition."

The 30-year-old Filipina beauty queen said she needed a weekly Aranesp and iron shots and that they "work like magic."

The beauty queen was diagnosed with a chronic kidney disease (CKD) in 2018 and has been open about her struggle with the illness. —Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/JCB, GMA News
