Solar panels lower electricity cost in Team Kramer's household from P79K to P29K

Solar panels have proven to be a great investment for Chesca and Doug Kramer's family as it "drastically" lowered their electricity bill.

Team Kramer's power costs had reached P79,000 since they moved to their "dream house" where every room is air-conditioned.

In an episode of "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho," Doug said it is for this reason that they decided to have solar panels installed.

"Everything was planned about the solar panels since the space is big and we have many heavy appliances and we're all staying at home," he said in a mix of English and Filipino.

"For us, it was the mindset of investment. Spend a few now then as the years go by, we'll eventually have it back," he added.

True to what they hoped would happen, as their electricity bill went down and now ranges from P29,000 to P35,000.

According to Ahlan Ayala, an installer of solar panels, business has been booming these days as families aim to lower their electricity bills.

This is amid the high rates and brownouts caused by the thin power supply in Luzon.

Ayala said solar panels cost around P70,000 to P400,000 depending on how many boards are needed or requested by a customer.

"Renewable energy is cheap now and with solar, we can immediately get the roots of our investment," he said in a mix of English and Filipino.

Meanwhile, Grig Dianila, a technician, developed a solar generator set which is a cheaper alternative for normal solar panels and can be used in times of power interruptions.

It has a battery placed inside a hard case and a solar panel. It is priced at P8,000 to P25,000 depending on the specifications and can last up to 24 hours.

According to the United States' Department of Energy, solar panels are technologies that convert sunlight into electrical energy. It has also been proven to reduce electricity costs.
