Blackpink calls for collective action in fighting climate change at UN COP26

Blackpink called for collective action in fighting threats to the environment at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), which was held in Glasgow, Scotland

In a video message on Nov. 2, the K-Pop group said they were encouraged to learn more about climate change as it was considered one of the “most important issues of our time.”

“We are firm that we should act now urgently to prevent much, much worse,” Jennie said in English.

The four members addressed the world leaders present at the event, asking them to make the rightful decisions to keep the planet safe.

“We hope that you’ll make the decisions necessary to protect our planet now and forever,” Jisoo said.

Among the issues they mentioned was planet Earth’s rising temperature, which may have adverse implications, such as severe heat, drought, health problems, and death, among other concerns.

“Almost all warm water coral reefs would be destroyed, and sea ice would melt and devastate wildlife,” Jennie said. “We do not want to get there,” Jisoo continued.

They also called on everyone, not just the leaders, to do their own part to protect the Earth.

“The important thing is we all take responsibility because it just won’t be achieved without collective action,” the four-member group said.

“If we all act now, if we all step up with real ambition, if you, world leaders, seize this vital moment at COP26, we can still realize what was promised in Paris 2015,” they said.

“We can still save our planet, we can still save our future,” said the group.

“We, Blackpink, and Blinks, our fans, our generation, our world, will be watching and hoping,” they added.

“Let’s work together for our planet. And take climate action in your area.”

COP26 is a gathering of all UN countries’ leaders to discuss how to protect the planet from global warming, climate change, and other factors that would endanger the Earth.
