Kara David is new journalism chair of UP College of Mass Communication

Award-winning documentarist Kara David is the new chair of the journalism department at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication.

The veteran GMA News broadcast journalist is replacing Dr. Rachel Khan as chair, while Dr. Aurora Liwag-Lomibao will assume the post of Associate Dean, also held by Khan.

UP CMC announced the new positions in a Facebook post on Thursday.

David has been serving as an assistant professor in UP since 2017, teaching broadcast journalism, peryodismo sa Filipino, and other courses.

In her guesting at "The Howie Severino Podcast," David said she uses Taylor Swift and Gloc-9 songs as references when teaching her students.

"It sticks in their heads more than if I asked them to read classic literature. They retain more the metaphors, personification, if I use songs as examples," she said.

Last year, David taught a masterclass on documentary filmmaking for kids and offered free tutorials on journalism and TV reporting.

Aside from doing documentaries on "i-Witness," David also hosts "Brigada" and "Pinas Sarap."
