Teacher in Laguna puts up food pantry for students without baon

This teacher from Laguna went the extra mile and put up a food pantry for his students without baon.

According to Mark Salazar’s “24 Oras” report Wednesday, Christian Obo from Kapayapaan Integrated School in Calamba buys snacks straight from his own pocket.

Obo said he knows how hard it is for students to study without having eaten anything, so he decided to do this for them. Thankfully, other teachers are also willing to help.

“Meron talaga kaming mga mag-aaral na kapos na kung saan sapat lang yung pera nila for transportation kaya naman lagi ako nag-iimbak ng pagkain,” he said.

“Alam ko na malaking bagay ito para sa kanila dahil mahirap po ang walang laman ang sikmura kapag nasa paaralan,” he added.

Though their salaries aren’t big, Obo said this is also his way of giving back to those who helped him.

“When I was in elementary, I experienced going to school without any cent,” he said. “I had to rely [on] my friends. Kumbaga aasa’t-aasa sa mga kaibigan.”

“When I was in high school, papasok ako (nang) sapat lang yung pera kong pamasahe. I was able to survive also with the help of my friends and teachers.”

Obo hopes his advocacy will inspire other schools and teachers to do the same for their students.

“Let’s continue to be catalysts of transformation and transform these kids to be empowered citizens and I know these will be our future leaders that will give us hope for our future,” he said.—Franchesca Viernes/LDF, GMA News
