Miss Grand International is under fire for cryptic post on 'MU'

Miss Grand International is under fire for its cryptic post on "MU," which some netizens perceived as "Miss Universe."

In the video posted Thursday, the letters M and U were seen circling the globe until it was crashed by MGI, which stands for Miss Grand International.

After, MGI queens through the years paraded the stage with MGI's president, Nawat Itsaragrisil. The post's caption said this is part of the organization's 10th anniversary celebration.

"We have been through a lot of stories and we will continue growing and [creating a] better version of grand because 'We are grand, the 1 and only,'" it read.

Several netizens couldn't help but express disappointment for pitting MGI against Miss Universe. Some even noted how this was "unnecessary" and "disrespectful."

"You can be good without rebuking others. Many fans don’t like this," one commenter wrote.

Michelle Dee, Miss Universe Philippines Tourism 2021, is also among those who took their concern to Instagram, saying that the video "completely goes against what pageantry stands for."

This issue came just shortly after the new queen, Isabelle Menin from Brazil, was crowned. The finals took place at the Sentul International Convention Center in West Java, Indonesia.

The Philippine representative Roberta Tamondong, meanwhile, finished as part of the Top 20.
