This well in Masbate has overflowing water

This well is shocking the residents of Masbate as it is already overflowing with water.

On Kuya Kim’s “24 Oras” report Tuesday, Brgy. Calumpang’s chairperson Chona Alonzo said lots of people use this to their advantage as it’s easier to get water. They still wonder why that is, however.

“Isang beses na tag-init, may isang tao na sinubukang bababa diyan sa balon. May butas daw papunta [sa gilid],” she said, adding that they do not drink the water.

According to Mines and Geosciences Bureau’s supervising geologist Emar Basilan, this might be caused by bad weather since “‘pag okay naman yung weather, normal naman yung well na ‘to.”

“Yung case sa Masbate, isa siyang non-artesian well. However, because of the rainfall, yung recharge sa ground, do’n napupunta sa well through interconnected cavities, most likely under the surface.”

A water well is made from making a hole to access groundwater, which comes from an aquifer or layers of rocks where water flows.—Franchesca Viernes/LDF, GMA News
