Cebuano priest explains, Good Friday is set to closest full moon of Summer solstice

If you notice, during the celebration of the Holy Week is done during the time that the moon is full, a Cebu-based liturgist explains.

Fr. Mhar Vincent Balili, Our Lady Help of Christians parish priest, explained that in the gospel of Mark, Jesus died on the Day of Passover when the moon was full moon.

"It has become common in Christian (and especially in creationist) circles to claim that the Crucifixion was on April 3, AD 33," said Balili, a liturgist and Seminary professor in Cebu City.

Balili added that the lunar eclipse that evening was a fulfillment of the reading of the book of Joel or the prophecy of the moon being turned into blood.

"The sun will be darkened, and the moon will turn red as blood before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes." (Good News Translation)

"That's why the Lenten Season and Holy Week are movable because Good Friday is determined to the closest full moon of the summer solstice," said Balili. -- BAP, GMA Integrated News
