Shamcey Supsup addresses Miss Universe Philippines Top 10 controversy

Shamcey Supsup-Lee has addressed the controversy at the Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh) coronation night, where the Top 10 finalists were scrapped due to “technical difficulties.”

The former beauty queen and MUPh national director took to Instagram to explain what happened.

According to Shamcey, the Top 10 announcement was based on the independently tabulated results provided by the pageant’s partner accounting firm. These were then submitted to the MUPh board for record-keeping.

“However, as I carefully examined the figures, my attention was drawn to the highly improbable nature of the numbers," Shamcey said. "This gave rise to concerns that the integrity of the results may have been compromised.”

She said that to “ensure absolute fairness and transparency,” the board decided to do a manual counting of the judges’ votes.

“This meticulous process was conducted with the utmost diligence and in the presence of the accounting firm,” she said. “As a result, it became evident that there were discrepancies in the initial top 10 results.”

Because of this, the Top 18 were allowed to participate in the pageant’s evening gown portion.

“Our primary objective as an organization is to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of the pageant,” Shamcey said. “We believe in providing equal opportunities for all candidates and to do what is right no matter the consequences.”

She then thanked the pageant’s supporters for their understanding and belief in MUPh.

“Your trust means the world to us, and we are determined to honor that trust by continuing to navigate this situation with grace and integrity,” she said.

Michelle Dee was crowned Miss Universe Philippines and will represent the country at the international pageant in El Salvador, Central America.
