When should children be circumcised? Doctor answers

Circumcision, or the removal of foreskins, is a centuries-old rite of passage to adulthood in the Philippines.

But did you know when the best time is for children to be circumcised?

According to Oscar Oida’s report on “24 Oras,” Tuesday, circumcision is important for hygiene and also to prevent infections.

The best age to be circumcised is nine to 12 years old, and it is not advisable for babies.

“May tsansa ho kasi na bakapwedeng umulit uli,” Dr. Jonathan Loseco said.

Dr. Jonathan also recalled, “Meron ho akong tinuli parang recently lang, 60 years old na ho siya. Nagkaroon ng infection so dahil nga po hindi natanggal yung pinaka foreskin dun sa ari ng lalaki so pwede pong magiipon ng infection doon sa mismong balat.”—Carby Basina/LDF, GMA Integrated News
