Doja Cat drops new song 'Balut,' explains title meaning

Doja Cat has released a new song called "Balut," one of the tracks in her upcoming album "Scarlet."

The American rapper has explained the meaning of the title—the Filipino snack balut.

In an Instagram Story, Doja Cat said the title "signifies a bird being eaten alive."

"It's a metaphor for Twitter stans and the death of Twitter toxicity. The beginning of 'X' and the end of 'tweets.'"

The song drew mixed reactions with Filipinos online. Some said they craved balut because of it, while others took issue with Doja's explanation, as balut is steamed or grilled fertilized duck egg and not a live bird.

Doja Cat's popular songs include "Paint The Town Red," "Woman," "Kiss Me More," and "You Right."
