Healthy hair and ‘less is more’ makeup are hit looks this 2024, say celebrity hairstylist and makeup artists

As we welcome the new year, people are revamping their looks not only to give themselves an extra boost in confidence but also as a way to start 2024 fresh.

In Cata Tibayan’s report on “24 Oras,” Tuesday, celebrity hairstylist Mark Anthony Rosales said that healthy hair is the general vibe of hair trends this year.

“And for us to achieve that, we have to start with our hair and scalp. So before we use any tools, kailangan naghi-heat protectant ka, ganiyan, parang sunblock lang din sa face,” he said.

We will see more straight hairstyles this year alongside bun updos and 90s blowout styles as beach wave locks take a break from being on trend.

When it comes to color, baby highlights or off-beat streaks are recommended, while bangs are mentioned to give the hair depth and layering.

“I suggest kasi is to add dimensions para naman hindi siya looking DIY ‘yung buhok mo, or magmukha siyang wig,” Mark said.

For men, he recommends low-maintenance haircuts as the 90s boy band look returns on-trend.

“Ito ‘yung parang mga Nick Carter look, middle partition, and volume hair,” he said.

Meanwhile, for makeup looks, celebrity makeup artist Christine Duque said that less is more to allow the natural skin to peek through.

Thin, fresh makeup that emphasizes the eyes is going to be a hit.

“Graphic liners, brighter hues ng mga eyeshadow or colored mascara. Sa lips, brighter colors like reds will always, always be in fashion, so it’s coming back this coming summer, bright pinks, bright corals,” she said.

Gabbi Garcia, Winwyn Marquez, Klea Pineda, and Megan Young’s makeup artist, Jason Delos Reyes, added that neutral colors and peach shades are going to be used a lot in makeup looks.

“Pantone color is peach fuzz, so ito ‘yung mga toned down konti na mga blush on. Last year kasi, medyo nag-explore tayo ng blush on, ‘yung mga na putok na pink, orange, so this year, medyo mas muted ‘yung mga colors so parang alam mo ‘yung flush mo lang, ‘yung sarili mo,” Jason said.
