Father and daughter who live in makeshift shelter receive help from GMA Kapuso Foundation
A 58-year-old father and his daughter have been taking shelter in a makeshift home in Barangay Sta. Cruz in Antipolo City.
According to "24 Oras," Wednesday, Romeo Ortiz roams around the city every day to collect junk so he can continue sending his daughter to school.
"Pamasahe niya sa school, sampu, tricycle. Bente baon niya. Ganun ang pagmamahal ko diyan sa bata na 'yan, eh. Ganun ang pagmamalasakit ko," he said.
Romeo is the only one providing for his daughter after he got separated from his partner.
In 2014, Romeo suffered a stroke, making things more difficult for him.
A concerned citizen noticed Romeo's situation and helped him reach GMA Kapuso Foundation.
GMA Kapuso Foundation then assisted them in seeking help from their barangay.
"Sila po'y pina-x-ray, siyempre po at 'yung financial assistance na buwan-buwan makakakuha ho sila ng kahit pangpamasahe man po ng kaniyang [anak]," Barangay Captain Cirilo Tenorio said.
Because of Romeo's age, his hearing has also started deteriorating. The GMA Kapuso Foundation had his hearing checked to help him.
"At the age of 40, puwedeng nagkakaroon tayo ng degenerative changes. Humihina na talaga 'yan, ano? Kasi sa katandaan. Makakatulong vitamin B complex, dapat palakasin natin 'yung mga nerves," said Dr. Gil Vicente, an ENT specialist.
