'Black Rider,' 'Sundo,' and 5 more GMA docus shortlisted at New York Festivals TV & Film Awards 2024


Black Rider, 6 GMA docus shortlisted at New York Festivals TV & Film Awards 2024

“Black Rider” is among the seven GMA Network programs that were shortlisted at the New York Festival (NYF) TV & Film Awards 2024. 

The action-packed series, topbilled by Ruru Madrid, is among the finalists under the Entertainment Program: Drama category, according to NYF’s website. 

Meanwhile, six GMA Network documentaries are also shortlisted, three of which were produced by GMA Network’s longest-running documentary program, I-Witness. 

Nominated under the Documentary: Heroes category, Howie Severino’s “Boat to School” episode talked about the plight of the students in a community in Siargao who had to traverse the sea using a boat to go to school.

 

“The Price of Dream,” by Atom Araullo, told the story of two young boys who search for coins in a dirty water channel for a living was nominated under the Documentary: Social Issues category. 

Mav Gonzales' “Rise from the Mud,” which tackled the old tradition of Agusan Del Norte residents diving into the waters to get mud that will be used to plant frog grass, was nominated under the Documentary: Community Portraits category.

Two Atom Araullo Specials have also been shortlisted: “Child Game,” for the Documentary: Social Justice category, and “One Deep Breath” under the Documentary: Human Concerns category. 

“Child Game” delved into the lives of Manila youngsters involved in crimes in the city. 

Meanwhile, “One Deep Breath,” focused on the life of Badjao people in Mindanao, who dive for pearls under the deep ocean for a living. 

Finally, the GMA Integrated News Documentary, “Sundo,” has been shortlisted under the News Program: News Documentary/Special category.

The documentary revolved around the war between Hamas and Israel as told through the lenses of two veteran journalists of GMA Integrated News Raffy Tima and JP Soriano. 

New York Festivals TV & Film Awards honors the exceptional and innovative content on all continents and is seen across all platforms.  

Last year, GMA Network reaped two golds from the NYF for its “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” episode “Sugat ng Pangungulila (Wounds of Woes),” and “Mata sa Dilim (Eye in the Dark,” episode of “The Atom Araullo Specials.”
