Wolfgang's Steakhouse founder Wolfgang Zwiener passes away at 85

Wolfgang Zwiener, the American founder of the steakhouse chain Wolfgang's Steakhouse, has died. He was 85.

The restaurateur passed away on January 23 in Hawaii, as announced by Wolfgang's Steakhouse Philippines on social media Monday.

"Today, with over 40 locations worldwide and more than six decades of industry experience, Mr. Wolfgang and his legacy [are] celebrated, and this will continue to guide the growth of the Wolfgang's Steakhouse family across the globe," the statement read.

"His humility, warmth, and kindness will be deeply missed. More than a businessman, he was a devoted husband and father. Our hearts go out to Elena, his wife, his sons Steven and Peter, and all his business partners and associates who mourn his loss."

Wolfgang's Steakhouse Philippines also noted Zwiener's impact beyond his own family, notably on the lives of the chain's staff in the country.

"We will cherish the beautiful memories he leaves behind and strive to uphold his legacy of genuine hospitality in the F&B industry. He will forever be remembered in our hearts," Wolfgang's Steakhouse Philippines added.

He opened the first-ever Wolfgang's Steakhouse in New York City in 2004.

Wolfgang's Steakhouse opened its first outpost in the Philippines in 2016.

The steakhouse currently has six branches in the country: Bonifacio Global City, The Podium, Newport World Resorts, City of Dreams, Araneta City, and Boracay Newcoast.
