Residents affected by floods in Pililla, Rizal receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Almost 300 students, as well as teaching and non-teaching personnel of Matagbak Elementary School in Pililla, Rizal, who were affected by flooding caused by the inclement weather received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to "24 Oras" Thursday, the whole school, including the rehabilitated Kapuso classrooms that the foundation just opened in July, got flooded after a creek near the area overflowed.
The GMA Kapuso Foundation first built Kapuso classrooms in the elementary school after it was ravaged by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.
"Natatakot na din po [kami[ kasi 'yung pinsala po sa mga gamit, lalo na po sa school, 'yung mga pagpupundar po. Panibagong pundar nanaman po," said resident Francia Marasigan.
Equipment, such as teachers' laptops and electric fans, was not spared by the flood, either.
On Thursday afternoon, the GMA Kapuso Foundation took to Matagbak Elementary School where it distributed food packs and cleaning materials to the students, as well as teaching and non-teaching personnel.
Per the report, the Department of Education and the local government unit of Pililla are also currently in talks to find a more sustainable solution that would benefit the welfare of the students.
According to Felipe Aliwalas, barangay captain of Brgy. Bagumbayan in Pililla, Rizal, they are now planning to relocate the school to a different location.
"Ang plano po namin dito ay i-relocate po ito. Maglalaan po ang ating pamahalaang bayan na sapat na sukat para dito po sa ating ililipat na paaralan," he said.
