Cebu earthquake: Where to donate to help affected communities

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Bogo City in Cebu on Tuesday evening.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake occurred at 9:59 p.m. 

On Wednesday, Department of Health Secretary Ted Herbosa reported that a total of 63 fatalities have been recorded due to the earthquake. 

As the Visayas region continues to face the aftermath of the earthquake, several organizations and groups have released calls for donations to relief efforts in support of communities affected.

Here is a list of places where you can donate.

GMA Kapuso Foundation

The GMA Kapuso Foundation has begun its Operation Bayanihan initiative to help those affected by the Cebu earthquake.

Cash donations via various banks are welcome, as well as through Shopee, Lazada, Globe Rewards, and Metrobank Credit Cards. 

You may also donate through Cebuana Lhuillier.

University of San Carlos 

The University of San Carlos Supreme Student Council (USC SSC) is launching its Carolinian Donation Drive to help the affected communities. 

They accept financial donations through GCash and in-kind donations, which can be dropped off at the Command Center at Heritage Park, Capitol Compound in Cebu City.

Girl Scouts of the Philippines Cebu Council 

The Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Cebu Council is launching a donation drive for relief goods and medical supplies for the victims of the earthquake. 

Monetary donations may be sent via GCash to Venice A. (09453922045), while in-kind donations may be dropped off at the GSP Cebu Council Headquarters Building, M. Cuenco Avenue, Banilad, Cebu City. 

Holy Name University 

The Central Student Council of Holy Name University is also extending its help to its fellow Cebuanos affected by the recent earthquake. 

They accept monetary donations, which you can send via GCash: Jann Elstar Tare (09151772505). 

Rotaract Club of Metro Cebu 

The Rotaract Club of Metro Cebu is launching Project RISE, which provides essential items such as shelter, food, water, clothing, hygiene kits, medical supplies, and financial assistance to those most affected.

Financial assistance is accepted through GCash, Maya, and Gotyme.

They also accept in-kind essentials, such as shelter items, food, water, clothes, hygiene kits, and medicines. 

Cebu City Foursquare Gospel Church

The Cebu City Foursquare Gospel Church also has a donation drive for some of the members of their community who have lost their homes due to the earthquake. 

You may send financial assistance via GCash or drop your in-kind donations at their Pastoral House in Brgy. Zapatera, 115 Fr. Rahman Street, Cebu City. 

Cebu Technological University 

The Cebu Technological University (CTU) is also holding a donation drive to extend help to those in need. 

They accept in-kind donations such as food, hygiene kits, clothes, and infant needs, which you can drop off at the CTU Main Campus. 

For monetary donations, you may send them via GCash (Be* An****** B - 09260815614). 

Philippine Red Cross

The Philippine Red Cross has mobilized its emergency response teams to deploy ambulances, food trucks serving hot meals, blood supply for hospitals, and volunteers to bring life-saving aid to victims of the earthquake. 

For those who wish to contribute to their relief operations, the organization is accepting donations via BDO, Metrobank, PNB, Gcash, Maya, BPI, Security Bank, PayPal, and PhilPacs. 

KikoSug

KikoSug, a youth organization rooted in the advocacy and leadership of Senator Kiko Pangilinan, has organized a donation drive called Piso Para sa Sugbo to extend relief to those in need.

They accept in-kind donations such as bottled water, ready-to-eat food, sleeping mats, blankets, tents, and hygiene kits, which can be delivered to their drop-off points in Mandaue and Cebu City.

You can also send financial assistance via GCash, Maya, PNB, and Unibank.
