Taylor Swift's 'The Fate of Ophelia' MV references Ophelia's death scene in 'Hamlet'
Taylor Swift dropped the music video of "The Fate of Ophelia" and it has William Shakespeare references in it.
The four-minute music video she released on Monday opens with Taylor lying on a riverbed, dressed in a flowing white gown and blonde wig, appearing as part of a painting on display in an art museum.
The scene was a reference to Ophelia, a character from Shakespeare's famous play "Hamlet" who drowned in the river.
Aside from Ophelia, the music video also highlights the vibrant life of a showgirl, featuring Taylor dancing alongside her crew from The Eras Tour.
"The Fate of Ophelia" is the lead track of Taylor's newest album "The Life of a Showgirl" which she released on October 3.
Aside from "The Fate of Ophelia," the album also includes "Elizabeth Taylor," "Opalite," "Father Figure," "Eldest Daughter," and more.
Meanwhile, Taylor's last album, "The Tortured Poets Department," came out in 2024.
