32K individuals affected by Opong receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation
A total of 32,336 individuals who were affected by Typhoon Opong in September have received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Operation Bayanihan project.
According to "24 Oras" Friday, the typhoon caused damage to many homes, including the home of Dominador Gabiazo, a resident of Tagapul-an Island, Samar.
"'Yung lakas ng tubig, 'yun ang matindi kasi umabot ng parang kalahating baywang. Sa dami ng bagyong dumaan, parang ito 'yung matindi," he said.
Eutiquio Gonzaga, another resident, also shared that he and his family hid under a coconut tree when Opong hit.
Per the report, the GMA Kapuso Foundation traveled for three hours from Calbayog, Samar, to get to Tagpul-an, where they distributed relief goods to the residents.
The foundation also brought aid to Eastern Samar, as well as Luzon, namely Masbate, Oriental Mindoro, Laguna, and Sibuyan Island in Romblon.
"Isa itong mahalagang partnership ng GMA Kapuso Foundation at ng Philippine Army naming 3rd Infantry Batallion. Through coordination, through communication, naipapaabot natin, nakikita natin 'yung sitwasyon," said 2Lt. Maneth Asumbrado, CMO Officer, 3rd Infantry Battalion.
Meanwhile, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is set to travel to Davao on Saturday to conduct its first wave of relief operations for the residents who were affected by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that rocked Manay, Davao Oriental Friday morning.
On Friday evening, another earthquake, this time of 6.8 magnitude, struck off the shore of Manay, per the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS)
