4,000 residents of Panitan, Capiz affected by Ramil receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Four thousand residents of Panitan, Capiz, who were affected by the onslaught of Tropical Storm Ramil have received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation.
In "24 Oras" Wednesday, Mark Jay Dumol, Panitan Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer V, said the municipality is considered the catch basin of Capiz.
"'Yung municipality of Panitan is an agricultural town po ito so mababa 'yung area talaga. Mabilis umakyat 'yung water levels sa Panay river hanggang sa nag-overflow na," he said.
Western Visayas suffered massive flooding due to Ramil, with Capiz province the most affected, per the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6.
Among those affected was Nicholas Delima, a farmer, who lost most of his newly harvested rice due to the floods. From 30 sacks of rice that he planned to sell for P500 per sack, only six survived.
"Wala naman akong magawa, nangyari na 'yung pagbaha. Sana lang po may tumulong sa amin, Kahit sa binhi, para makabawi at makabangon ulit," said Nicholas Delima.
Recently, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed food packs to residents of Panitan who were affected by the massive flooding. A total of 4,000 residents benefited from the Operation Bayanihan project.
The foundation is also set to hold relief operations for residents affected in Sigma, Capiz.
